Norwich Airport offers seasonal flights to the Greek Island of Corfu from the month of May through to October flying every Friday allowing the traveller to arrive refreshed for the weekend.
Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian Islands situated in the Ionian Sea which is part of the Mediterranean Sea. It has a wonderfully warm climate and the average temperature between May through to October on average ranges from 18ºC to 25ºC with water temperatures ranging during the same period on average from 21ºC to 25ºC.
Corfu refers to both the Island and the main town. The main town is an eclectic mix of Greek, French, Italian and British cultural and architectural influence which can be seen in the narrow and cobbled streets. A popular attraction is the Old Fortress which sits overlooking Corfu. It was built by the Venetians in the 15th century. Its main purpose was to protect the town from pirates and other enemies and to keep the valuable Venetian trade routes open.
Corfu like many of the Greek islands is geared up for the traveller and has countless water sports centres available where you can hire jet skis, go paragliding, paddle boarding and try windsurfing. There are boat trips to take from most of the more popular resorts and a very popular one is the crazy speedboat from Kavos.
Corfu has miles and miles of glorious sandy beaches, over 50 defined beaches to explore and relax at, many are near popular resorts but more secluded and rustic ones can be found if you venture further afield. The popular beaches are clean and have cafes, bars and restaurants nearby.
If you travel to the North of Corfu island you will find close to the village of Sidari the famous Canal d’Amour. This is a place where the rocks have formed different coves and canals within themselves allowing the traveller some amazing views and unique places to take pictures.
As with any of the Greek Islands the traveller should take the time to find a local restaurant and try the fabled Greek Meze. Make sure you are very hungry.
