Despite graduating from Imperial College with a Chemistry degree, Emma Worley (29) has fulfilled her long-held dream of becoming a pilot, having recently been promoted to Captain for airline, Loganair.
Norwich-based Emma has followed in her father’s footsteps to become a pilot, completing four-years of service with the carrier. She passed through the selection, interview and flight simulator stages, before progressing from First Officer to Captain, all before the age of 30.
She will be filling the shoes of a female colleague who is currently on maternity leave.
Emma was the chair of the university gliding club, and began flying small planes in her spare time.
Emma Worley said: “It’s great to have become a Captain after four years of hard work.
“I’ve received a lot of help along the way from my colleagues who are always on hand to offer feedback to help my progression.
“After going to university to study chemistry I actually took on a full-time job at a gliding club which led me towards my commercial flight training.
“I’m very much looking forward to sitting in the captain’s seat.”
Andy Thornton, director of flight operations at Loganair, said: “We are pleased to have Emma progress her career at Loganair, from her first day of training right up to her new position as Captain.
“Loganair employs a higher ratio of female pilots than most carriers in the industry and Emma is the latest to join the ranks.
“Career development is important to us with Emma being proof that with the right attributes and commitment, it is possible to climb the ladder in a relatively short-time.”
Emma will be piloting Loganair’s fleet of Dornier 328 aircraft from Norwich International Airport, flying between Norwich and Edinburgh and Manchester.
She celebrated her promotion by joining her friends for some coffee and cake, pleased to be entering a new phase of her career.
Loganair operates daily services between Norwich, Edinburgh and Manchester Airports.
